2026, Total installation with video, textile and sound

Inspired by old folklore stories, the work explores the mermaid as a powerful, mythological being. With her magic she can controle the sea and predict our future. She can warn fishermen about upcoming storms or seduce them with her beautiful songs. The mermaid lives between reality and fantasy. She can look like a seal, a whale, a fish or have multiple tails.

The mermaid stories originate from a time where humans lived at the premises of nature. The ocean gave and took. Therefore it was reasonable to understand nature as living and inhabited with both human and non-human beings. Today is the mermaid often reduced to a Disney princess. This could hint about our damaged relationships with nature. All though is her body, half fish and half human, still connecting us directly to the natural world. Reminding us that we humans, as the mermaid, are not separated from, but part of nature.
